ABOUT ME

JULIO QUARESMA resumé: Born and raised in Africa, Julio Quaresma concluded his studies in Portugal. After 29 years on his career as an artist, Julio Quaresma has taken part in over 40 exhibitions indoors and abroad. If during various periods in history, art and architecture were inseparable, they have decisively left their imprint on a large number of Julio’s paintings. Since the beginning of the 80's that Julio Quaresma has been exhibiting his works, rediscovering art and reinventing the system of values linked to establishment. His work predominantly features clarity, logic and order, and favors line over color and often gives a contradictory edge to bodies without a face, emphasizing the unity of pure being more than the voidness. He deals with social realities that are polemic. He almost exclusively works with the human form, usually with minimal background. His images are primarily representational and include figures and portraits. Each painting combines canvas, wood, metal, oil, cloth and each one has its important role. Quaresma has never exhausted experimentalism. On the contrary, his perfection on canvas gives also place to words to balance the master-piece of the artist.
